How the conversions work

Decimal odds are the total return per unit staked, stake included, so 2.50 pays €2.50 for every €1. Fractional odds show profit only, so the same price is 3/2. American odds use a base of 100: a positive number is the profit on a 100 stake, a negative number is the stake needed to profit 100, which makes 2.50 into +150.

Implied probability is simply 1 divided by the decimal price. It is the most useful number on this page, because it turns a price into a percentage you can disagree with. If you think the real chance is higher than the implied probability, the bet has value.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert decimal odds to fractional?

Subtract 1 from the decimal price and express what is left as a fraction. Decimal 3.50 becomes 2.5, which is 5/2. The fraction shows profit per unit staked, while the decimal shows the total return including your stake.

What does +150 mean in betting?

American odds of +150 mean a profit of 150 on a stake of 100, which is decimal 2.50 and an implied probability of 40 percent. A negative American price such as -150 means you must stake 150 to profit 100, which is decimal 1.67.

Which odds format is best?

Decimal is the easiest to compare and to calculate with, which is why most of Europe and every serious bettor uses it. Fractional survives in the UK by tradition, and American odds are standard in the United States.

Do the odds include my stake?

Decimal odds do: 2.00 returns your €1 plus €1 profit. Fractional and American odds show profit only, so you get your stake back on top of the number shown.
